Sandbox Architecture

The OpenStack NFV Virtualization Sandbox is built on a comprehensive OpenStack architecture, incorporating core services such as Nova for virtual machine management, Neutron for network configuration, Cinder for block storage, and Keystone for identity and access control. These services are configured to seamlessly deploy and manage virtualized network functions (VNFs) within a controlled environment. Glance provides an image repository for quick VM and VNF deployment, while Heat enables orchestration for deploying complex, multi-tier applications and network topologies. Additionally, Tacker is integrated to manage and orchestrate VNFs and Service Function Chaining (SFC), allowing users to create and deploy virtualized network services. This sandbox allows engineers, developers, and researchers to experiment with NFV use cases, creating and managing network infrastructures entirely within OpenStack, offering a flexible and scalable platform to practice, test, and innovate with private cloud technologies.

Why this Sandbox ?

Deploy and manage applications using virtual servers, networks, and Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). It enables users to gain hands-on experience with OpenStack's capabilities, facilitating exploration of diverse use cases, including service chaining, multi-tenant architectures, and automated network management. This environment supports a wide range of NFV applications and network topologies, empowering users to practice, experiment, and innovate with cloud-native and virtualized network infrastructures at their convenience.

Sandbox Use Cases

  • Deploy virtual machines and isolated virtual networks for test purposes.
  • Deploy applications in virtual machines in your private cloud.
  • Automate virtual machine deployment and scalability with Heat orchestration.
  • Deploy and manage virtual network functions like a network firewall.
  • Collect and persist data in volumes with Cinder.
  • Store and manage Objects using Swift storage.
  • Monitor your deployed virtual machine using Ceilometer.
