5G System Engineering: Architectures, Concepts and Call Flows
This Learning Path provides a holistic overview of 5G end-to-end architecture, starting with the fundamentals of 5G systems, including the core network, radio access network (RAN), and user equipment (UE). You'll progress to intermediate concepts such as network slicing, service-based architecture (SBA), and integration between the core and radio networks. Through hands-on labs, you'll gain practical experience in configuring and analyzing 5G E2E scenarios, preparing you for real-world deployment and troubleshooting of 5G systems.

Lab Architecture:
The Lab architecture seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technologies to create a comprehensive environment for 5G, which includes a 5G core Network equipped with a gNodeb and a UE that allow the user to test the different end-to-end use cases in 5G.

Lab Objectives:
- Develop the ability to assess 4G and 5G networks from an end-to-end (E2E) engineering perspective, optimizing architecture, latency, and throughput.
- Gain knowledge in 5G NR advancements to ensure seamless radio and core integration
- Master the full stack of 5G protocols—NGAP, GTP, SCTP, HTTP/2—and understand their interactions across the RAN, transport, and core network for efficient troubleshooting and optimization.
- Acquire hands-on experience with E2E traffic analysis using Wireshark, focusing on signaling flows, DNS resolution, PDU session establishment, and user-plane data inspection for network validation.
Lab Architecture:
This Hands-On Training consists of a virtualized 5G Core Network connected to a radio access network and a UE that allows the user to simulate different 5G scenarios.

Lab Objectives:
- Develop expertise in 5G protocols such as GTP, NAS, HTTP/2, PFCP, and NGAP to understand network signaling and data flow.‍
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of 5G SA architecture, including how core components (AMF, SMF, UPF, UDM, NRF) interact.‍
- Enhance your ability to analyze real-world 5G scenarios, such as Registration, Deregistration, Service Requests, and PDU Session Establishment.‍
- Develop advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills by capturing and interpreting network traces to identify and resolve issues.
